Under the authority of section 9 of the Executive Council Act and the Prerogative of the Crown, the Lieutenant Governor in Council is pleased to appoint Chris Curran as the Deputy Minister of the Department of Justice, effective April 17, 2006, with reporting responsibilities to the Minister of Justice and Attorney General including those reporting responsibilities in support of the Attorney General’s roles assigned in section 4 of the Executive Council Act that are not the reporting responsibilities of the Associate Deputy Minister of Justice and General Counsel, with the exception that the Deputy Minister will also provide support to the Attorney General in the settlement of instruments issued under the Great Seal of the province.  Mr. Curran’s salary shall be at an appropriate step on the 2556 Point Scale of the Executive Compensation Plan, with a 1% differential to apply in consideration of the salary to be paid to the Associate Deputy Minister, and with benefits to include the payment of annual practice fees in the Law Society of Newfoundland. Mr. Curran is to forward a position description to the Public Service Secretariat for purposes of classification and clarification of the relationship between the Associate Deputy Minister and the Deputy Minister of Justice, to be approved by the Clerk of the Executive Council in addition to the regular approval process.  The classification process shall not negatively impact Mr. Curran’s salary and the benefits stated above and, where applicable, any salary increase on the basis of the classification process is to be effective the date of his appointment.
