Under the authority of sections 5 and 17 of the Executive Council Act, theLieutenant Governor in Council is pleased to create theDepartment of Child, Youth and Family Services,effective April 9, 2009, consisting of one branch with responsibility for:

i) Child, Youth and Family Services functions, specifically services to children, youth and families; adoption of children; and child care services, including child care centres and family resource centres, but excluding parent/child health, formerly within the Department of  Health and Community Services; and

ii) the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, the Adoption Act (with Government Services), and the Child Care Services Act (with Government Services).
