Under the authority of sections 5 and 17 of the Executive Council Act and the Prerogative of the Crown, the Lieutenant-Governor in Council is pleased to create the Department of Education, effective September 9, 2020, to consist of all of those functions formerly within the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, and some of those post-secondary education functions formerly within the Department of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour with the exception of apprenticeship and trades certification and industrial training, with three branches as follows:

a) Corporate Services,

b) K-12 and Early Childhood Education, and,

c) Post-Secondary Education.
