Under the authority of sections 5 and 17 of the Executive Council Act and the Prerogative of the Crown, the Lieutenant-Governor in Council is pleased to create the Department of Environment, Climate Change and Municipalities, effective September 9, 2020, to consist of all of those functions formerly within the Department of Municipal Affairs and Environment with the exception of the fire services, emergency services and municipal infrastructure functions, and to include the protected areas function formerly within the Department of Fisheries and Land Resources, with three branches as follows: 

a) Climate Change, 

b) Environment, and, 

c) Municipal Affairs.
