Under the authority of sections 5 and 17 of the Executive Council Act, the Lieutenant Governor in Council is pleased to create the Department of Justice and Public Safety, effective October 10, 2014, consisting of all those functions formerly within the Department of Public Safety, and including the agency known as Fire and Emergency Services – Newfoundland and Labrador.
